Ridiculous how Dallas would lose at home and yet could win on the road; and against the Rams especially and easily. Remember 37-7 and 28-0 in LA?

Last NFL game to be played in the 70s. This was the late game on December 30, 1979. 48 hours later it would be the 80s.

Of ALL the Rams teams of the 1970s to make the super bowl this 9-7 version did it. They always had trouble with the Cowboys and Vikings. They gave Steelers a tough challenge and it was a great game to watch.

Some really bad play calling on that last drive by Dallas. They had plenty of time, but Staubach was looking deep on that First and Second down. Maybe Laundry shit the bed and a panicked, who knows.

I was in a week long coma at USC Medical Center intensive care unit. I had a bad case of Spinal Meningitis and I was fighting for my life. While out of my mind talking gibberish, I told nurses and family members the Rams had to win this game for me to survive. This is the first time seeing this game. Oh yea, I survived (obviously), thanks to the Rams?

Staubach's last game. Scully and Allen missed the ball tipped by Cowboy LB into hands of Waddy. I have been watching a lot of late 70's playoff games and these guys miss a lot of plays.

Fun Fact: The Los Angeles Rams defensive end wearing #89 is Fred Dryer, who after calling a career in 1981 and a brief broadcasting stint as a color analyst for CBS, decided to take up acting and from 1984-1991 he played Sergeant Rick Hunter on the NBC TV series Hunter.
owenhawley 4 місяці тому
My Claim to Fame: I graduated from El Camino jr college, which is Dryer's alma mater. The administration hall displayed a trophy case, and I would always point out his picture to my classmates. He came from Lawndale high, and moved on to San Diego State.

I HATE this game. I remember crying because we all knew it was probably going to be Staubach's last game. His last ever completion was to Herb Scott and was a penalty. LOL! I still cheered for the Rams when they made it to the Super Bowl though because my dislike of Pittsburgh was even greater.

1. Weight training wasn't as consistent/required. 2. The players didn't make kind of money like they do today....many had to work other jobs in the off season to make ends meet, so they weren't working out all year long. 3. 300 lb. + lineman didn't come into vogue until Washington had success with the Hogs in the mid-80s. 4. If you were over 280 you were considered too fat and out of shape to play well.
CHIGGS 58TH 5 місяців тому
@Karo French I don't think so, players were definitely leaner back then.

Both these QB's came from colleges that ran the wishbone or triple option offense, in Navy and Nebraska. Where they next to never passed the ball unless they we're trailing. Navy only throws 10 passes a game now in this era! Staubach probably only attempted 100 passes his entire 4 years at navy!
