Did you forget something? SALT?!!! OMG - did he just make unsalted bread. It's going to taste like nothing - literally nothing. ALSO: This got to be the ugliest bread I have seen so far on UKvid. By stretching it out - you call it "rustic" - you take all the support from its outer layer making it a super flat and boring bread that has no oven spring at all. With dry yeast you should be VERY EASILY be able to get a huuuuge bread and not this piece of dead cat. Well, he called his crumb spongy and that's what it is - way too dense. PLEASE people - don't try this at home. Go to another channel and learn from someone who knows what they are doing.

I brought Yeast from ebay folks and then got my flour from Amazon 16 kg bag should last for a while, got next mays date on it . I always bake , can't get bread flour though 🙄😰

baking bread in a standard oven doesn't work. you either need a bread maker or a very large commercial oven without an internal heating element. otherwise the crust cooks far quicker than the inside leaving the yeast active.

I heard him say Strong Flour (Strong flour (AKA bread flour) is the strongest flour with a very high gluten content (13-14%).

7g, but you’ll want to use maybe half that as he only uses half the dough for a loaf. Half the water and flour too

Not only do I feel completely useless in comparison to the NHS staff and other frontline workers but I am further torturing myself by reading articles and watching all you successful, free, productive ,talented, happy folk who continue to thrive as I rot. I am typing through deep anger, depression, anxiety,ugliness, isolation, inferiority, cluelessness, lack of freedom, unemployment, suicidal tendencies and all the bad but feeling completely unable to act upon it. Cooking is something I have always longed to learn and As the very undeveloped yet adult, British born daughter of the two worst, Indian, immigrant, elderly, non-stereotypical, pathetic,useless, uninspiring parents in the world, I still have no life skills today and the fact I still can't even cook basic english foods never mind indian or other dishes, makes me feel lower than rock bottom. I'm jot academic and have many issues and I always have struggled more than most but as a child I never thought I'd feel the need to complain about my life on a Jamie Oliver youtube video comments section in a quarantine period at this age. I don't know of anybody else as failed, damaged, cursed as me but even through this hell I am still determined to learn to cook and so once these two are dead I will atleast be sufficient inone area of my life...cooking. Unlike your stereotypical Indian/Asian or anyone for that matter, I do not have any extended family members nor friends. I've always been isolated and failed whatever I try. Cooking is not easy for someone in my situation. I also have chronic pains and several other health issues which further limit me and I do not get any social or council or any help. My mental health is really bad and the only reason I'm not attempting suicide is that if it doesn't end in death I don't want tp be the idiot wasting the already pressured NHS. So for them I'm staying alive. I watch fitness videos and try to exercise in my unsuitably small box room whilst knocking my limbs on the second hand furniture and being suffocated in the lack of space. I try to go for walks but I stick out and get laughed at in this all white neighbourhood. And I don't drive. I'm the epitome of the tragic failure. I am a laughing stock. I've tried and failed. They don't let me use the kitchn just like they dont let me study, develop, work, have friends, But as they've never worked, studied, volunteered, helped, supported, allowed, encouraged or empowered me in any way...I can't be blamed. I don't even have a sense of smell. I am useless Believe me, the quarantine is nothing extraordinary. Just tell me for now, as I sit here at 2pm on a lonely, Saturday afternoon ith a plethora of problems and a very limited budget... how should I start cooking alas today...which ingredients should I stock...what should I make? I know I have it in me and I will take all the bullshit from my parents and put earplugs in and try making something from scratch today but there are so many overwhelmingthings online and I don't know where is bestvto start...Im being serious...I kust learn to cook today if it is the last thing I do...shouldI start with bread...where should I start ? And is it too late ? I am not a psychologist but is there an age, a window of learning to cook that I have surpassed? Or can I still become an impressive, healthy, focused, home cook by the next academic term ?

if you have a plain, basic oven, It-s essential to put a pot with water in the oven, otherwise, the crust will be too hard.

(Basically what I said to another commenter) At the risk of sounding pretentious, this recipe is extremely simple and misses lots of important things that contribute to a airy crumb instead of overly dense. If you have bread flour, plain flour, yeast and salt, a casserole pot and a little more time you can make a much better loaf with a large airy crumb and a deep brown crust. I recommend a poolish recipe by Bake with Jack on UKvid

I wouldn't make bread full stop if you're going gluten free, as bread rises due to gluten structure.

It's not a gluten-free recipe. You need to search on youtube for that. It will have different measurements and liquid amounts.

Hello did you forget some of the ingredients? Where is the oil? It woul be really helpful if you ecplained to people how to test the fough has been kneaded long enough. It takes much longer than the 1 minute on the video.
