Perseverance Rover’s Descent and Touchdown on Mars (Official NASA Video)

NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.

The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

Why is it that we don’t send multiple rovers and drones to varying sites on Mars at the same time? Or the moon for that matter. Why is it always one at a time. If the response is money i think that’s just a front.

When I heard about this crazy idea -- I honestly thought it will fail spectacularly because the design of the landing is just insane and complicated. But I am very glad to be proved wrong that the rover has landed safely.

NASA, where did you sent that rocket to? After he drops the rover he just leaves, like he has something to do.. Will he just fly until he has no more gas?

At the speed the artificial intelligence evolves humans might not have to risk their lives for a long period of time; and Humans' landing on Mars might look like our landing on the Moon. The latter did not bring such a breakthrough as expected: we are still far away from colonisation or even from a limited use of the Moon resources. If UFO phenomena are true, I guess they also might be some manifestations of artificially managed robotic devices.

The surface in 4 Kilometers hight looks the same as in 10 Meters! And the nozzles are pitch black! And there is dust in front of the nozzels and no sign of a jet or downwards moving gas!
Atlas 7 годин тому
@Ralf Kath Not all rocket engines and propellants produce a pronounced flame.
Ralf Kath
Ralf Kath 7 годин тому
@Atlas flames or sharp jets! Ok maybe I am wrong. Maybe the sky crane is the best way to land a rover! Even in 10 meter distance the jets make a lot of dust but if they come closer to to surface it maybe a disaster...
Atlas 8 годин тому
what should it look like?
Mike P

Actually, no. And the fuel is hydrazine that doesn't produce visible exhaust gas from the nozzles.

The sky crane uses a mono propellant called hydrazine. It decomposes into nitrogen and hydrogen gas and a little ammonia. These gases are all transparent. That is why the rocket plumes are clear.
