They want people like Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) in Castaway to push others to deliver as fast as possible but without crashing into bear repellents (or have their planes crash).

I think amazon sucks anyway. Most of the products besides what you can just get at wal mart or best buy are junk.

You would think there would be a computer program they could use to cut down on steps in the wrong direction. Or orders being passed onto someone else in that area.

I wonder how Bezos and shit like him would end up if everyone had the money and brains to be smart enough to have jobs where they can choose their employer.... friggin hate how people must be kept poor and dumb just so there actually is someone down the ladder the supposedly smarter and especially richer people can shit on. I guess in that case we'd have 100% robots working in the warehouse.

Early in the show.. these people are obviously out of shape or ya know.. old..? The problem isn't the job where they have to WALK a long ways it's the people who read the job requirements and say yup I can do that, and then complain when its hard. Another thing, the people having problems with their scanning rates are people that can't keep up with the standards across THE ENTIRE company. So, I see some minorities complaining that they cant meet the average or even baseline requirements that literally everyone else has to meet. They should be fired, probably lucky they get so many warnings. If it was an unapproachable standard they wouldn't have so many employees. Quick search says there are 125,000 in these fulfillment centers.. pretty much 125,000 meeting the standards, damn.(Vox)

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight is in a good position to shed a critical light at some democratic presidential candidates and their platforms. One in particular. If you know your audience. You don't have to endorse or dismiss him, but there's a solid proposal backed by studies and research for a progressive step. Please don't miss your shot

For usual stuff I never use amazon because the shipment is so expensive. But for some things... I have tried buying Series 7 of Call the midwife in 3 shops in London, in the end I got it delivered to my hotel... Or go and find a Niffler figure in the city. You probably won't.

So here's the thing. We all know everything is going to be robots right? Robots should be the ones doing such menial and repetitive tasks as they will do them more efficiently and without injury. But, people still need jobs. So why not pay the humans to become product testers and experts on those products. Better yet, just pay everyone a universal living wage to go off and use their time to innovate and pursue their passions. Wouldn't this only accelerate human potential, invention, and creativity? I mean sure, there will be some people who end up doing very little, but think of those that would create and invent? People whose potential is currently wasted on menial work to simply get by. People whose mental exhaustion of having to do something that they wouldn't otherwise do, only diminishes their chances of being entrepreneurial. Think of the creative potential to build things more effectively, how grow better food, how to heal diseases. An economy of learning, invention, and self-driven passion. Doesn't that at least sound like better capitalism to you? An economy where we could actually be able to talk about meritocracy in a meaningful way, rather than in a context of inherited privilege which is not based on merit at all. :P

Capitalism: (offers the option to buy cheap stuff from less great employers or pricier stuff from better employers) Consumers: We chose to keep buying from the cheapest companies, even though we know their employees probably don't work in the best conditions. It must be capitalism's fault that we chose that option over and over again. Capitalism: Are you all stupid? -_-

Amazon should überize its processes so any individual can work when it is profitable and have flexible times. They can simply make it possible to pay for individuals to process their package directly so they can remove minimum wage and cut the cost of their products allowing them to have the edge over Walmart at the same time offset possible internal union activists.
Expedition Overlanding Nomadic Adventures
Bitching about walking as part of your job that's similar to a US mail delivery employee will become unemployed people when a rumba type device moves those same packages without injury-prone walking humans. Automated warehouses, that load tractor-trailer, in a warehouse managed by two people. 😏🤨🤓✌️🏾👍🏾 Americans bitching about working, leads to automation.

Wow. I thought I worked hard at UPS in the 1980's. I quit at the two month mark when the NON-VOLUNTARY union money started to be taken out. When I asked what the union did for the half-time truck loaders like me, they gave a lot of ums and ahs, and no information. Then they came out with gems like "We make the workplace safe!" I said, "OSHA." ...We make sure there is overtime beyond 40 hours! - State law, and I work 20-25. We make sure that if you work holidays you get a holiday rate! - State Law, next. Well, if you're going to be a smart(quack)… - Bye!

I’m a Prime member and feel horrible for it, but I need it. I’m disabled, a crutch-user, and live alone. I use Chewys to get my pet supplies delivered to my door because they fucking rock, but there are many things I struggle to buy in person. As it is, a few times a year my mom will deliver a set of toilet paper and paper towels from the big box store- I can’t carry those items due to sheer bulk.

Amazon is torture. I've worked in both the full time and part time buildings, and I didnt mind the part time gig. It's actually a fairly simple job and quota is simple to achieve. What's described is the full time buildings. They are living hell. I worked directly with the position that had the machines that broke bear mace. It's what I imagine a prison cell feels like. Stand in one place for 10 hours a day, no interaction with anyone, work at an inhuman pace, and do so in a station that is poorly lit and has no air circulation. My tipping point there was when I was given a warning for coming back from a break one (1) minute late. They were ready to fire me for being ONE MINUTE LATE. But hey, enjoy your shit you dont need getting to your door in two days.
wizbang68 4 дні тому
Amazon and warehouses are not the only industries where outsourcing organizations and their leaders have a slave labor mentality. It's not just warehouses. it's also call centers, tech repair service centers, etc. Almost any company who calls themselves a logistics specialist is simply putting a fancy name on "outsourcing". In other words do it as cheap and fast as you can without paying worker benefits, any raise, and finding any reason to get rid of people who get close to being eligible to receive benefits. Things like needing to go to the bathroom will get you in trouble. In part because you have to walk the length of a football field to get to the bathroom, wait in line to use it and get back to your desk. You get a 10 minute break and it was not possible to do it in that time period. Finally, why is the hell is Amazon shipping hazmat materials?? Bear repellent?

I worked at a pharmaceutical warehouse. Listening to this brought back bad memories. I was either working on the line doing this stuff for 15-20 miles a day, or I was working on trucking. Almost as much running around, but with the added addition of lugging around 10-40 pound totes. The work is grueling and I'm glad I left when I did. The other workers always joked about how if you worked there for two years, you were gunna need either knee or back surgery. I thought it was funny until I found out that every 2+ year veteran of that warehouse had either knee or back surgery. I was only there for a year, and I still have intense knee pains 3 years later. I'm 27 by the way.

"There's a line of other people and a lot of these waiting to take jobs" - sounds eerily similar to the circumstances during the industrial revolution. Wanna have a guess how we europeans got it under control? Unions. Wanna guess what americans are deathly afraid of? That's right, unions...

I mean.. it's ongoing... myself for example.. 13:18 that's because corporations use programs such as avaya and while sure you can take as many bathroom breaks as you need to in the corporate world... but guess what that's going to do to your metrics.. and guess how you get bonuses.. and guess how you get promoted or just even the good duties for the day and guess what they look at during your review.. that's right.. a little metric called compliance... and those bathroom breaks.. start knocking that percentage down down down... ........ I was a business major.. with 5 degrees...

8:30 not exactly true...... I never worked logistics for Amazon.... I've just been working off and on with tech billionaires since the 90's..... and I'll tell you this... ultimately.. I have an MBA.. through a program developed by Harvard... & so I wrote an immigrant.. non-citizen.. with zero funds... who had 4 kids.. rented.. credit card debt... no job... a business plan... would you believe this guy after over 4 years with me.. is now.. a US Citizen.. with a gun carry permit... a Lamborghini.. three houses... and actually a boatload of other cars and toys... as well as a half million dollar commercial property.. he is now a multi-millionaire and I helped him get there... but how ? .. with the business plan I wrote.. with the funds I was able to secure for him and his family... we flipped those funds into investments every day for over 4 years... and he paid me squat.. he thought himself this genius... I led him the entire way... but get this... the banks had no problem giving a non-citizen with zero funds 4 kids a rented home no assets credit card debt and no job... nearly a half million in funds..... me on the other hand.. Harvard MBA... perfect credit as far as that goes, never missed a payment.. had credit since 2000.... good income.. guess how much the banks are willing to offer me the white guy not the Muslim immigrant.. with pretty much a similar style business plan that I again also wrote.... guess ?.. if you guessed 0.. you're absolutely 100% correct sir
